---------- | A SONG OF SONGS The Song of Songs is found in the Old Testament. Scholars have various interpretations of its meaning, from being truly beautiful erotic poetry to parables and allegories of the relationship of God with his people. It may be a poetic presentation of the ideal marriage, but whatever our preference of meaning the vividly picturesque words, often chosen to be read at weddings, it has been a frequent subject in art and particularly in sculpture. My intention has been to try and express the beauty and wonder and particularly the gentleness of human intimacy. I believe that it is from such wholesome human experience alone that we come to our experience of true, sound spirituality and an ability to express it whether in words or other forms of imagery. |
