---------- | HERE IS YOUR KING ‘...Pilate had Jesus brought out, seated on the chair of judgement at a place called the pavement, in Hebrew Gabbatha. It was Passover Preparation Day, about the sixth hour. ‘Here is your King,’ said Pilate to the Jews.’ (John 19:13-15) The inspiration for the sculpture comes from a possible alternative reading: ‘...Pilate had Jesus brought out and seated him on the chair of judgment...’ The idea for the sculpture was suggested by Pilate’s presenting Jesus as King of the Jews. Was he playing the game of the Fool King started by the soldiers, by seating Christ on the judgement chair? Perhaps he was mocking the crowd. |
